Britney Spears Becomes Judge on The X Factor U.S.

In an effort to gain more viewers, “The X Factor” has asked Britney Spears to join the U.S. team of judges for a whopping $15 million a year, according to E! News. While rumors of a negotiation with the pop star began in February, E! News reported on Monday that Spears signed the deal earlier this week, sending viewers into a massive divide: people either hate or love the idea to have Spears as a judge on the show. The new seasons begins in September.

Radar Online reported that Spears and her agent Jason Trawick refused a $10 million offer from “The X Factor” U.S. and asked for $20 million instead. (Trawick is also Spears’ fiancé.)

Critics of the new deal say that Spears will not be good judge for the show because she lacks experience in being on live TV. Spears has closed the door to unscripted media appearances in the past. She also has a reputation of being “ditsy and inarticulate,” and has also been extremely media shy since her breakdown in 2008. Critics also say that she should not be judging singer’s abilities or talents when she rarely sings live.

In addition to Spears, “The X Factor” has also added Demi Lovato to the show, joining Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid. Spears and Lovato will be replacing Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.
